The average person looks at a piece of art for 15-30 seconds. I'm thinkin' it might be time for a "slow art day" now and then. I'll put up a new post every Friday - on a piece of art, or an artist. Your comments are appreciated. And hey - please bear with me because I've merged a couple of my art blogs together, so the formatting got a bit muddled on a few of the older posts. I'll fix it some day. But not today. Today I'm busy having a Slow Art Day. Lynn Strendin
The Art of Slow Art
When our family gets together on special occasions, often someone turns on the YouTube “Slow TV” Channel and we watch things like people aimlessly walking down the streets of Calcutta or a 6 hour train ride through the mountains… or ya – you guessed it – the good old “burning log”. Heck– you can even watch someone knitting a sweater. Beginning to end. I’m talkin’ in real time here folks.
So I was happy to find out there’s a “Slow Art” movement happening out there. People making a point to spend more than 15 - 30 seconds per painting when at a gallery.
That’s exactly what I needed when I went to a big fancy schmansy art show one time...... I got there and realized I should have done some long lookin' and some hard thinkin'. I learned my lesson the hard way, so now I approach the shows I go to differently. I try to spend a bit of time on the painting or the artist, and I really get a lot more out of the experience. Works for me anyways.
So have yourself a good day. A good slow art day.
